El espa\u00f1ol tiene las mismas vocales que el ingl\u00e9s (a, e, i o, u). No obstante, hay una gran diferencia en c\u00f3mo se pronuncian.<\/p>\n

El sonido de las vocales es, sin embargo, menos susceptible a variaciones regionales que las consonantes: las personas en Colombia pronuncian las vocales casi exactamente como lo hacen las personas en Chile, mientras que el sonido de las consonantes es frecuentemente cambiado y algunas veces omitido.<\/p>\n

La mayor diferencia entre el espa\u00f1ol y el ingl\u00e9s es que cada vocal en espa\u00f1ol tiene s\u00f3lo un sonido limpio y claro, que se mantiene siempre, mientras que en ingl\u00e9s tienen pronunciaciones diferentes, dependiendo de su posici\u00f3n en la palabra, las letras que la preceden o la siguen, etc. La vocal \u201ca\u201d, por ejemplo, puede pronunciarse por lo menos de cuatro maneras diferentes.<\/p>\n

Si bien es cierto que el estadounidense debe esmerarse en aprender casi de memoria la pronunciaci\u00f3n de las 5 vocales espa\u00f1olas, mucho mayor estudio, pr\u00e1ctica y dedicaci\u00f3n habr\u00e1 de destinarle el estudiante de ingl\u00e9s.\u00a0 Se estima que, en promedio, el aprendizaje de la pronunciaci\u00f3n de las vocales en\u00a0 espa\u00f1ol toma la mitad del tiempo que el aprendizaje de las mismas en ingl\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

La tendencia a prolongar y arrastrar las palabras, o a pronunciar mal las vocales o las consonantes, es uno de los principales componentes de los acentos “gringo” y \u201clatino\u201d. Por otro lado, la rapidez en la pronunciaci\u00f3n de las vocales espa\u00f1olas, m\u00e1s el hecho de que se les da su verdadero valor fon\u00e9tico sin tener en cuenta su colocaci\u00f3n en una palabra o si la vocal es o no acentuada, merece especial atenci\u00f3n por parte del estudiante y del instructor, con el fin de evitar la mala interpretaci\u00f3n de una palabra o frase en espa\u00f1ol.<\/p>\n

Como ejemplo podemos mencionar la consonante \u201cd<\/strong>\u201d: el estadounidense tiende a pronunciarla como la \u201cr\u201d del espa\u00f1ol y palabras como cada (each), o todo (all), \u00a0<\/em>pueden ser malinterpretadas como cara (face) o toro (bull).<\/em><\/p>\n

Otro ejemplo con la doble ere \u201crr<\/strong>\u201d del espa\u00f1ol en las palabras\u00a0 \u201cperro\u201d (dog) o \u201ccarro\u201d (car): <\/em>\u00a0cuando no se pronuncian correctamente se entienden como \u201cpero\u201d (but) o \u201ccaro\u201d (expensive).<\/em><\/p>\n
