Los ex\u00f3nimos son los nombres de lugares geogr\u00e1ficos traducidos. Por ejemplo, Colombia tiene como ex\u00f3nimo turco Kolombiya y como ex\u00f3nimo franc\u00e9s La Colombie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

De all\u00e1 para ac\u00e1, muchos nombres propios geogr\u00e1ficos tienen su ex\u00f3nimo en espa\u00f1ol, que se deben usar con preferencia a la forma original, especialmente cuando son palabras tradicionales.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As\u00ed, top\u00f3nimos ingleses como England y London tienen como ex\u00f3nimos espa\u00f1oles Inglaterra y Londres. Los alemanes Deutschland, M\u00fcnchen y Mainz tienen como ex\u00f3nimos espa\u00f1oles Alemania, M\u00fanich y Maguncia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hay que decirles a artistas y modelos que viajan a Mil\u00e1n y Florencia, que esos son los ex\u00f3nimos de las denominaciones italianas Milano y Firenze. Y a escritores, que no se les olviden las tildes de Par\u00eds y R\u00edo de Janeiro, que las formas originales en el franc\u00e9s y portugu\u00e9s no tienen, pero sus ex\u00f3nimos espa\u00f1oles s\u00ed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

En lo que toca a Estados Unidos, no olvidemos que USA es la sigla de ese pa\u00eds en ingl\u00e9s, mientras que EE. UU. es la abreviatura en espa\u00f1ol. Muchos locutores se esmeran en pronunciar en perfecto ingl\u00e9s New York, cuando existe el ex\u00f3nimo Nueva York, cuyo gentilicio es neoyorquino, no nioyorquino (que seguramente escriben newyorkino), como se oye en canales televisivos de Miami.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Otros ex\u00f3nimos de ese pa\u00eds son Misisipi (ex\u00f3nimo de Mississippi), Luisiana (de Louisiana) y Carolina del Norte (de North Carolina). Adem\u00e1s, muchos nombres estadounidenses son originalmente espa\u00f1oles, por lo que no hay que esforzarse en darles una pronunciaci\u00f3n gringa al leerlos en radio y televisi\u00f3n: California, Florida, Los \u00c1ngeles, San Francisco, San Antonio, Orlando, El Paso…<\/strong><\/p>\n
